In a tragic incident in Bulloch County, a vehicular accident has claimed the lives of a young mother and her 5-year-old son, while an 8-year-old girl sustained minor injuries. The collision occurred on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway, between Fair Road and Brannen Street, early Monday morning.
Officials pronounced 25-year-old Michelle Lynn Lewis dead at the site of the crash shortly after the vehicle she was operating veered off the road around 8:26 a.m. According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper First-Class Tyler Rickman, Lewis’s car unexpectedly departed the highway into the median, striking a ditch at an emergency access point. Consequently, the car became airborne and overturned multiple times, leading to Lewis being ejected from the vehicle.
Her son, Ricky Lewis, who initially survived the accident with critical injuries, was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. Ricky fought for his life but was pronounced dead just past midnight on Wednesday, confirmed Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch.
Surviving the accident with minor injuries was Ricky’s sister, 8-year-old Hailey Lewis. As of now, she appears to be the sole survivor of the immediate family involved in the devastating event.
The cause of the crash is under meticulous investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. At this stage, no details have been released regarding the factors that led to Lewis’s vehicle leaving the road.
