In Burke County, Georgia, a group of five University of Georgia sorority sisters became unexpected heroes when they saved a mother and her two children from a potentially fatal car accident. While traveling to Savannah for a girls’ weekend, they witnessed an SUV veer off the road and into a creek below.
According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the students were on route to their destination last Friday when they came upon the harrowing scene of a vehicle that had plummeted roughly 135 feet into a waterway and began sinking. Without hesitation, the group stopped and immediately went to assist the distressed family.
The five women—identified by authorities as Molly McCollum, Jane McArdle, Eleanor Cart, Clarke Jones, and Kaitlyn Iannace—took swift action. They raced to the overturned SUV and worked together to rescue the occupants, a mother named Cori Craft and her two young children, from the submerging vehicle.
Craft later recounted the traumatic incident, stating she lost control of her car due to the inclement weather conditions. Once the car came to a stop in the creek, she said her only thought was to get herself and her children to safety. The college students were successful in retrieving Craft’s 8-year-old child but encountered difficulty with her younger son, who had been submerged for several minutes.
