Traffic flow on E. Derenne Avenue was disrupted due to the accident, causing delays during the early morning hours. The westbound lane that had been closed to allow emergency crews to manage the situation and investigate the site was reopened to public access around 7:00 a.m.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, and the SPD has yet to release information about the circumstances leading up to the collision or if any charges will be pursued. Updates on the cyclist’s health status and further details on the incident will be made available as the investigation progresses.
Safety officials urge drivers and cyclists alike to exercise caution and be vigilant of their surroundings, especially at intersections and during times of limited visibility. With the increasing number of cyclists on the road, the potential for accidents underscores the need for heightened awareness on the part of all who share the road.
