On Saturday evening, a serious collision took place near the I-85 ramp on Clairmont Road in Brookhaven, DeKalb County, involving an ambulance and a truck. The ambulance, belonging to American Medical Response (AMR) and responding to an emergency call without patients, was struck by the truck whose driver failed to yield the right of way.
The force of the collision caused the ambulance to overturn, leaving the two ambulance personnel and the truck’s occupant with minor injuries, necessitating their transport to a local hospital for treatment. Emergency services, including the fire department and police, were quick to the scene, alongside towing services to handle the overturned ambulance. The incident led to traffic disruptions but was resolved with the clearing of debris and removal of the overturned ambulance by late evening.
Officials at the scene have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident, seeking to understand the circumstances that led to the truck driver’s failure to yield. It has not been reported whether any charges will be brought against the truck driver, nor have any statements been released regarding the current condition of those hospitalized. This collision has underscored ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the importance of adhering to traffic laws, particularly when emergency vehicles are involved.
The incident has also prompted local authorities to issue reminders to all drivers to be vigilant, especially when approaching intersections and highway ramps where the likelihood of such accidents can be higher.
