In Atlanta, a high-speed lane-splitting maneuver turned fatal for a motorcyclist on Friday night. The accident, which left one dead and two injured, occurred at the intersection of Greenbriar Parkway SW and Continental Colony Parkway SW.
The incident was reported to the Atlanta Police Department at around 11:10 p.m., prompting officers to rapidly converge on the scene. There, they discovered the aftermath of a collision involving a Kawasaki motorcycle and a Honda CR-V.
The motorcyclist, a 36-year-old male, was declared dead at the scene. A passenger from the motorcycle was found in critical condition and immediately transported to Grady Hospital. The driver of the CR-V, a 29-year-old female, also sustained injuries and was admitted to a local hospital in stable condition.
Preliminary findings by the Atlanta Police suggest that the motorcyclist was traveling at high speeds, engaged in lane splitting before crashing into the CR-V. The driver of the CR-V had been attempting a left turn to head west on Greenbriar Parkway when the motorcycle struck the vehicle in the intersection.
While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities are working diligently to piece together the specifics of the collision to determine its cause.
