Atlanta, GA (May 14, 2024) — A multi-car collision on I-85 southbound in Midtown Atlanta led to a complete lane closure earlier this morning. The incident, which included a number of vehicles, occurred around Exit 84, near the center and HOV lanes. The pile-up caused a considerable backup, affecting the flow of traffic up to the interchange with GA 400.
Emergency responders from Atlanta Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered one individual trapped within the wreckage. Rescue efforts were quickly underway, and the trapped person was extracted from the vehicle. Shortly after the rescue, the individual was transported to Grady Hospital for medical treatment. The conditions of this individual and any others involved have not been disclosed at this time.
The crash resulted in significant delays for commuters, and authorities advised motorists to seek alternative routes during the closure. Following the accident, cleanup crews and investigators were on-site to clear debris and conduct preliminary inquiries into the cause of the multi-car collision. All southbound lanes of I-85 have been reopened to traffic, though the investigation by local law enforcement is still ongoing.
