TROUP COUNTY, Ga. – A tragic car accident on May 23 resulted in the death of a Troup County High School teenager.

The incident occurred at around 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of Whitfield and Hogansville roads where a vehicle carrying five students was struck by a school maintenance truck.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office reports that the students’ car was traveling west on Whitfield Road when a Dodge Ram 350 maintenance truck collided with the passenger side rear of their vehicle. The impact caused the car to spin and veer off the road.

In the wake of the collision, two students were ejected from the vehicle, suffering critical injuries. They were promptly airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta for urgent medical care.

On the morning of May 20, the Troup County coroner announced the passing of 17-year-old Mary Joy Moosman at 11:34 a.m.

Moosman, a native of LaGrange who grew up in West Point, was a distinguished student at Troup High School, expecting to graduate with honors. Her academic journey included time at West Point Elementary School and Long Cane Middle School. She was set to pursue further education at the University of Georgia this fall.
