DORAVILLE, Ga. — A catastrophic traffic incident occurred on Buford Highway in Doraville on Friday morning, resulting in two fatalities and leaving two individuals critically injured, local Doraville officials report.
The collision took place at approximately 11:40 a.m. The Doraville Police Department advised the public through social media to avoid travel on Buford Highway between Shallowford Road and Park Avenue while emergency response teams attended to the scene. The road was closed for several hours for investigation and clean-up but has since been reopened.
According to a City of Doraville spokesperson, the crash involved a Mazda sedan journeying southbound and a Chevy Silverado heading north. Preliminary findings suggest that the Mazda unexpectedly swerved into the path of the Chevy, leading to a violent crash.
The Mazda was carrying four occupants; in the aftermath, two passengers succumbed to their injuries, while the driver and the other passenger were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening conditions. The driver of the Chevy Silverado sustained injuries; however, the person remains in stable condition.
Local emergency personnel and Chamblee Police were observed at the site of the crash, providing assistance and coordinating rescue operations.
