ATLANTA — A tragic car accident resulted in one fatality and two individuals injured on Saturday evening in Atlanta, according to local authorities.
Atlanta Police Department officials reported to the scene at the intersection of Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. NW and North Ave. NW after receiving calls about the crash at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The collision involved a Ford Edge and a Volkswagen Jetta. The Ford Edge’s 33-year-old female driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The 31-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen also received hospital treatment with a condition described as stable.
Tragically, a 31-year-old male passenger in the Ford Edge did not survive and was declared dead at the collision site. As of this report, his identity has not been disclosed.
The initial investigation suggests that the Ford Edge was proceeding westbound on North Ave NW and was executing a left-hand turn onto Joseph E. Lowery Blvd NW. During the turn, the vehicle halted in the intersection where it was subsequently struck by the northbound Volkswagen Jetta.
Members of the APD’s accident investigation unit were dispatched to assess the comprehensive details of the accident, which remains under investigation. Further updates will follow as the detectives continue to unravel the chain of events leading to this unfortunate incident.
