Emergency crews responded to a serious collision involving a train and a truck on Friday afternoon at the intersection of Old River Road and Maria Sorrell Road. The impact left the truck driver with significant injuries, necessitating a complex rescue operation where firefighters had to free him from the entangled vehicle.
The force of the collision caused the truck to become ensnared on the train, with both remaining on the tracks when emergency services arrived. First responders worked diligently to safely extract the driver, whose legs were trapped under the wreckage. Bulloch County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tracy Miller confirmed that, while the driver’s identity was not disclosed at the scene, he sustained visible injuries which were severe but not life-threatening.
In addition to the truck driver, a woman and two children were involved in the accident and required medical attention. They were transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The nature and extent of their injuries have not been made public.
The driver of the truck, meanwhile, was urgently airlifted to a hospital in Savannah for specialized care. Sergeant Miller noted that while the injuries were serious, they were not expected to be fatal. The precise condition of the driver remains under evaluation.
The collision caused significant disruptions, and an investigation into the incident’s causes is ongoing. As authorities work to determine the sequence of events that led to the accident, further information is expected to be made available on local news outlets.
