Atlanta, GA – Atlanta Hawks forward Chandler Parsons was involved in a car accident on Wednesday afternoon, sustaining injuries that will sideline him from an upcoming road trip. The NBA player is dealing with a concussion and whiplash following the incident which occurred after team practice.
The team has confirmed that Parsons will not be joining the Hawks for their upcoming games against the San Antonio Spurs, having been ruled out due to his current medical condition. The forward has had limited playing time this season, participating in only five games and recording a total of 14 points in his 54 minutes on the court.
The 31-year-old’s accident adds to a challenging season for the Hawks forward, who joined the team in the previous off-season through a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. The move was largely financial, facilitating the Grizzlies’ desire to free up salary cap space, as Parsons was in the last year of a four-year max contract valued at $25.1 million for the season.
Parsons’ journey with the Hawks has been relatively inactive since late December, with the player not featuring in the team’s lineup as a healthy scratch. Despite the setback of his accident, the implications for his playing time may be minimal considering his current role on the team.
