In DeKalb County, an 18-year-old woman is facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, in connection to a fatal crash that occurred in February and resulted in the death of a fellow Lakeside High School student. Authorities have issued warrants for the arrest of Hannah Hackemeyer, who is also charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence while under the age of 21. The DeKalb County Fugitive Unit is actively seeking Hackemeyer.
An incident report details that Hackemeyer lost control of the vehicle on Oak Grove Rd, which subsequently veered off the road, collided with a sidewalk, a crossing sign, and a tree, before overturning and coming to a halt on its roof. The crash was noted to be speed-related and caused significant injuries to three students, while claiming the life of 18-year-old Sophie Lekiachvili, who succumbed to her injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The local community and Lakeside High School are mourning this loss, which marks the fourth car crash fatality involving students from the school within the current academic year. Lakeside High’s Principal, Susan Stoddard, has offered the institution’s condolences, addressing the impact of this recent tragedy on the school body and the families of the students involved in these accidents.
